From the stands of the Arena Champ-de-Mars, she applauds, shouts, and encourages her husband who is about to win his first gold medal of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Friday, August 2, Teddy Riner was crowned Olympic champion in the men’s Judo +100kg final. A match applauded by the whole of France, but especially by his family who are at the competition venue that day. For this event, he invited everyone, Marie-Pierre and Moïse, his parents, his maternal grandfather, Pierre, his brother and sisters, but also his uncles, aunts, cousins and close friends, reveals Paris Match. In the midst of this crowd, three people matter more than anything: his children Eden and Ysis and his wife Luthna.
That day, she is wearing a t-shirt on which it is possible to read the inscription: “I love you Teddy”. Usually discreet, in the stands, she does not hesitate to speak out to encourage her husband. “I don’t want to take the spotlight instead of Teddy”confides Luthna in the columns of Paris Match. “He’s the one who wins his fights. No one else!” But behind the scenes, it is she who takes care of managing all the judo champion’s finances. “And I thank him for it,” Teddy Riner adds to the French weekly magazine. The support of his wife and family is a real need during competitions. “Ted would win without us,” recognizes Luthna all the same. “But our presence carries him. He says to himself: ‘I make my people proud’.”

After winning his gold medal on Friday August 2, Teddy Riner agreed to go to the set of What Games!, like many athletes. Facing Léa Salamé, the judoka did not hesitate to send a message to his family who have supported him since the first day. “Since my first competition, my family has always followed me. (…) There, there were at least 200 of them,” the athlete first specifies. While the presenter mentions his wife, Luthna, Teddy Riner is obliged to have a few words for her. “We see her often, it’s true, and then thank you for this dream Olympics. I was able to prepare without thinking about anything, she ran the show and frankly thank you,” concluded the Olympic champion, his eyes full of admiration.
