Tragedy Strikes: Sophie Weißenberg’s Olympic Dreams Cut Short by Torn Achilles

German shock at the Olympics!

While ARD is reporting on the athletics competitions, a nasty incident occurs away from the cameras. Before the women’s heptathlon, Sophie Weißenberg (26) actually only wants to do a short test run in the 100 meter hurdles. But she suddenly collapses!

ARD turns around and shows the terrible Olympic scenes: Weißenberg jumps over the second hurdle, but suddenly her legs hurt and she falls to the ground immediately. Weißenberg immediately puts her hands over her face and bursts into tears.

ARD commentator Wilfried Hark (64) jumps up: “That’s Sophie!” Fellow commentator Ralf Scholt (60): “That doesn’t look good at all. I don’t want to jinx it, but that’s at least a significant blow to the calf. But those are also the typical signs of a torn Achilles tendon. Maximum disaster for Sophie Weißenberg.”

It is now a sad certainty: Weißenberg has suffered a torn Achilles tendon in his left foot. This was confirmed by the German Athletics Association (DLV).

TV athletics expert and legend Frank Busemann (49) also expressed his shock afterwards.

Immediately after the terrible accident, Weißenberg’s colleagues still have to walk. Busemann: “Experiencing something like that from your colleague up close, it kills you.”

After Weissenburg’s accident, paramedics rushed to the scene. The German athlete hit the track in frustration. ARD man Scholt: “Of course she’s angry now. That’s really cruel for an athlete.”

Afterwards, Weißenberg is taken away in a wheelchair, crying bitter Olympic tears. What a drama for Team Germany.

Immediately after the incident, Weißenberg’s colleague Carolin Schäfer rushes to her and tries to comfort her.

Immediately after that, Schaefer had to try to focus on her own competition. She almost had a false start in the 100 meter hurdles, but improved and achieved a strong time. Next up for her is the high jump.
