Treviso Athletes Gear Up for 2024 Paris Paralympics: A Community Rallying Behind Their Champions

TREVISO – With the start date of the 2024 Paris Paralympic Summer Games getting ever closer, the provincial delegate of Treviso of the Italian Paralympic Committee, Davide Giorgi, is pleased to wish the best human and sporting satisfaction to the athletes who will represent the Marca territory in the blue jersey. There are five champions from Treviso who will compete with the Italian team from 28 August to 8 September next to the French event, helping to make the Veneto delegation (11 men and 8 women, plus seven staff members including technicians and physiotherapists) a fundamental linchpin of the National team.

THE ATHLETES

These are Silvia Biasi (sitting volleyball, Volley Codognè), Manuel Bortuzzo (swimming, GS Fiamme Oro), Asia Pellizzari (archery, Arcieri del Castello), Paolo Tonon (archery, Arcieri del Castello), Bebe Vio (fencing, GS Fiamme Oro). Robert Alain Lorenzati, physiotherapist of the national cycling team, also completes the picture. In Tokyo 2020, in the Paralympics held in 2021 due to the pandemic, Veneto was the lion’s voice in the Italian medal table, scoring 26 podiums out of a total of 69: the province of Treviso shone with its own light thanks to the successes of Bebe Vio, who returns to the forefront three years later together with a group that starts with the right ambitions in their respective disciplines.

THE WISH

“I can’t wait to see our girls and boys at work in Paris – comments Cip Delegate Davide Giorgi – The Olympics that we are all experiencing these days are an extraordinary sporting spectacle, and when those same facilities will be the backdrop for our athletes, the message of universal inclusion of the Paralympic movement will be very strong throughout the world: the five flag bearers of the Marca know they also have this responsibility, but first of all they know that years of hard work will be put to the test at the highest possible competitive level. I want to tell everyone that they will not be alone when they compete, because there will be an entire territory and community cheering for them, starting with the Paralympic Committee family of course – continues the delegate – Compared to expectations, there is not much to say about Bebe, in fencing the athlete to beat is always her, but Silvia, Manuel, Asia and Paolo also start with important numbers and I am confident about the possibility of an edition that can speak out loud even in Treviso. Regardless of everything, the hope is to live to the fullest an honor like that of representing our country and a unique experience like the Paralympic Games: someone will perhaps return as champion, but certainly everyone will return as better athletes and citizens”.
