A new record prize money awaits the world’s best tennis players at this year’s US Open.
As the US Tennis Association announced on Wednesday, the prize money will increase by 15 percent and will now amount to a whopping 75 million dollars (68.7 million euros). No other tennis tournament has ever paid out so much money.
The winners in the individual competitions will receive $3.6 million, an increase of 20 percent over the previous year.
Anyone who makes it into the main draw of the US Open, which takes place from August 26 to September 8, is guaranteed a 100,000 dollar check. This year, Wimbledon had prize money equivalent to almost 58 million euros, and the French Open more than 53 million.
