The Italian volleyball team flies to the semi-final after beating the Italian team three to zero Serbia. In just over an hour and a half, the team coached by Julio Velasco overwhelmed their opponents. After a more hard-fought first set that ended 26 to 24, the Italians took home the other two, both with scores of 25 to 20.
For Italian women’s volleyball, this is the first semifinal in its history after the eliminations in the quarterfinals of 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2021. A historic successtherefore, also considering that it is the first time that the two volleyball teams are both in the semifinals in the same tournament. Velasco fielded the usual formation, proposing the Orro-Egonu diagonal, Bosetti and Sylla as spikers, Fahr and Danesi in the center with De Gennaro libero. Guidetti fielded Ognjenovic as setter, Boskovic opposite, Busa and Uzelac as spikers, Popovic and Aleksic as middle blockers with Popovic libero.
First set in which the Italian girls had more than one difficulty in reception, a factor that allowed the Serbs to also take a +5 lead (11-16); given the moment Velasco inserted Giovannini in place of Sylla and thanks to a good service turn by the last entry, Danesi and her teammates leveled the situation at 19-19. In the end the teams played point for point, the Italian CT changed the diagonal with Cambi-Antropova instead of Orro and Egonu, the teams alternated in the lead with minimal advantages and then found themselves tied again at 23-23 and 24-24. At that point, however, a block invasion by the Serbians and an attack on the net by Boskovic handed the partial to Italy at 26-24.
Second partial in which the Italian girls began to manage an advantage that oscillated between +2 (12-10) and +6 (18-13)then decreased again (23-20), but still enough to close on 25-20 for the temporary 2-0. Important contribution in the offensive phase by Sarah Fahr who collected 4 points and 100% in attack, as well as Egonu precious as usual with 8 points and 50%. Third set characterized by a good start for the Italians (6-2) with Danesi and her teammates well convinced and in the match (12-6), managing to conquer the semifinal thanks to a clear 25-20 that left no escape for the opponents.
