When David Hubert brought Zanka in at the very end of the match at Jan Breydel, it was with a clear idea in mind: to bring presence into the rectangle and try to win a point which would have looked like a miracle.
And the worst part is that it almost worked. On the final corner obtained by RSC Anderlecht, Zanka’s foot was at the far post… and the Dane completely missed his shot. As they say in this kind of situation: it was harder to put out than in.
For Zanka, a goal would have been a relief. In recent weeks, the Danish defender, brought in by Fredberg and close to Riemer, has fallen out of favor over the course of disastrous performances, and has cost Sporting dearly.
He recently lost his place in the eleven to Leander Dendoncker, who however does not look at all comfortable in this role of central defender.
