185 million over 5 years!

After Jalen Green‘s contract extension Monday evening, we were waiting to see the outcome of the Alperen Sengun case, also eligible for an extension before the October 21 deadline. Like his teammate, the Turkish pivot landed a new deal: $185 million over five years!

We are now certain: Alperen Sengun will not be a restrictive free agent next summer.

The Rockets and the 22-year-old have indeed reached an agreement on a contract extension. Sengun extends long term for an amount of 185 million, which is below the maximum salary that he undoubtedly coveted. Alpi will still receive 37 million per season until 2030, and has a player option for the last year. He can therefore arrive on the Free Agency market from 2029 if he wishes.

The news was announced by Bobby Marks ofESPN.

🚨 Alperen Sengun extended by the Rockets for 185 million over 5 years!

After Jalen Green, it is the Turkish pivot who extends. Maximum duration contract but below the maximum salary (37 million per year).

Sengun will therefore not be a free agent in 2025! https://t.co/HSOeJyvYxC

Alperen Sengun remains on an All-Star caliber campaign with stats of 21.1 points, 9.3 rebounds and 5 assists on average. He has established himself as the cornerstone of the Rockets project and this new long-term contract goes in this direction. If Sengun will receive less on his next contract than other players from the 2021 Draft crop (Cade Cunningham, Evan Mobley, Franz Wagner, Scottie Barnes), he now has long-term financial security. And that’s always important after a rookie contract.

More broadly, with the contract extensions of Jalen Green and Sengun, everyone in Houston can now move on and move forward. The Rockets aim to qualify for the play-in or even the Playoffs this season, for this they will need a Sengun – Green duo stronger than ever.

On his next contract, Alperen Sengun will therefore receive less than several friends from the 2021 Draft, namely:

– Cade Cunningham (224/5)
– Evan Mobley (224/5)
– Scottie Barnes (224/5)
– Franz Wagner (224/5)
