CONFIDENT SUCCESS IN AMSTETTEN
On October 19, 2024, the first edition of the very popular and strong tournament series ‘Small-Five-Tour‘ of the Lower Austrian Badminton Association took place in the Johann-Pölz-Halle Amstetten. Reka Katona and Ella Marlene Sicher from Badminton Mödling were in the mixed doubles as well Newcomer Julian Braun at the start in the men’s singles.
Reka and her doubles partner Michael Rupp from VRC Vienna played strongly right from the start and defeated Ella and her partner Maximilian Gaber in two exciting sets in the first round as part of a Mödlinger duel.
They were also able to clearly win the other two games and reached the semi-finals without losing a set, which was characterized by spectacular rallies throughout.
Thanks to their dynamic, consistent and varied game, the first set went clearly and safely to Reka and Michi at 21:16. In the second set they were also in the lead, but shortly before match point they were hit by an annoying lack of concentration that the opposing veterans , who had much more common tournament experience, immediately knew how to use it to their advantage and so, despite a rapid comeback in the third set, the game went to the eventual runners-up.
In the small final, Reka and Michi fortunately found their way back to their original form, played very focused and goal-oriented again, adjusted well to their defensive opponents, and ultimately confidently secured third place in two sets.
Conclusion: a very nice, warm, well-organized and recommendable tournament by ATUS Amstetten – Badminton in a pleasant and sporty atmosphere – we would like to come back!
Congratulations also to Julian Braun, who took part in a tournament for the first time, competed in the men’s singles and was able to win a game straight away, for his successful tournament debut – may there be many more to come.
The next edition of the ‘Small Five Tour’ series will take place on November 30th in Ybbs an der Donau – we are looking forward to many exciting games with Mödlinger participation!
