Nick Kyrgios is polarizing both on and off the court.
The Australian is aiming for his comeback on the tour after a long injury break and dreams of a Grand Slam title (all information >>>). He is scheduled to return at the Australian Open in 2025.
Before Kyrgios is seen on the tennis court, he makes people sit up and take notice with statements about his preparations for matches from days gone by.
“I drank like a fish”
In “The Louis Theroux Podcast,” the eccentric tennis professional reveals that he struggled with alcohol problems. One of his lowest points was the day before a match with Rafael Nadal, when he said he drank 20 to 30 drinks.
“I drank like a fish. Then I just woke up and made life difficult for him,” revealed Kyrgios.
So he underwent psychiatric treatment in 2019: “I was just struggling to be who I was. It was hard at the time and I didn’t feel like I could step away from sport to work on myself to work and get myself in the right headspace.”
Kyrgios with conspiracy theory
But his drinking problems weren’t the only topic in the podcast. The Australian also had his doubts about the creation of the three pyramids at Giza in Egypt.
In his opinion, these cannot have been created by humans. “How is it possible that they have all the measurements correct and that they are all correctly aligned and that they did this thing by rolling large stones on tree trunks?” he wondered.
Likewise, the size of the doors of the 4,500-year-old buildings make no sense to him. “I don’t know who it was. I just don’t think we were capable of it,” he clarified.
This isn’t the first time Kyrgios has made such statements. In the past, he doubted, among other things, the moon landing and that the Earth was a sphere.
