La Behobia-San Sebastián joins the commemoration of the centenary of the birth of Eduardo Chillida. Participants in the 59th edition will receive a medal with the engraving ‘Korapillo II’ that the sculptor made in 1982.

“‘Korapillo II’ links us to the Behobia route, with this kind of going up, down, going and coming back,” says Mikel Chillida, the artist’s grandson. According to the organizers of the popular race, the shape of this work resembles a route that grows from its initial point until it reaches its destination, having created a kind of route that passes through different spaces and corners between Irun and Donostia.

The result is a golden medal that includes Chillida’s engraving in black in the center and a black ribbon to hang around the neck with the sculptor’s centenary logo in white. A collector’s item that will surely serve as extra motivation for the 27,000 runners to cross the Boulevard finish line on November 10.

The Eduardo Chillida-Pilar Belzunce Foundation has been in charge of making this choice among the hundreds of engravings by the sculptor. “When searching the graphic archive we saw clearly that the work we selected had to have a real and palpable link,” explains his grandson.

With this initiative, Chillida’s relationship with sport is also evident in this centenary. As his son and president of the Foundation, Luis Chillida, points out, for the sculptor, art and sport “come together at the confluence of space, form and movement.”

For the Eduardo Chillida – Pilar Belzunce Foundation, the fact that the Behobia medal bears the work ‘Korapillo II’ is a tribute to the artist, “whose life and work, deeply rooted in his land, also reflect an openness to the world and a unique way to understand life.
