A new breeze in the basketball scene, ASICS introduces the fictional streetball team “MIDTOWN KRAKENS” collection | FLY BASKETBALL CULTURE MAGAZINE | Basketball Fashion & Culture Magazine

On September 8th, ASICS‘ invitation-only tournament “GRIP” was held at the atrium of ASICS Corporation’s headquarters. This tournament is a new basketball event that will probably be fresh in the memory of not only the participants but also many people through social media and other channels.

The teams participating in the tournament wore the uniforms of the fictitious streetball team “MIDTOWN KRAKENS” that started in August 2022. This collection is basketball apparel produced by ASICS and includes gear necessary for basketball, such as tank tops, short sleeve tees, long sleeve tees, and shorts.

“MIDTOWN KRAKENS” is a fictional team that aims to bring new innovation to the basketball scene together with ASICS. Their symbol, the “Kraken,” is based on the anecdote that the basketball shoes developed at the time of ASICS’ founding were inspired by the suction cup of an octopus, and is designed as a symbol of evolution and innovation to face the ocean.
