The Cleveland Browns, on the other hand, caused a small sensation, while Tua Tagovailoa’s comeback was spoiled by a kicker.
The New York Jets are in shambles – and can now probably abandon their ambitious season plans. On Sunday, the team around star quarterback Aaron Rodgers lost 22:25 to the New England Patriots, who had previously been bottom of the league.
The Jets now sit at 2-6 and need a near-perfect rest of the season to make the playoffs. Neither the dismissal of coach Robert Saleh nor the spectacular signing of Davante Adams brought about a timely turnaround.
Rodgers completed 17 of his 28 pass attempts and threw for 233 yards and two touchdowns. For the Patriots, QB Drake Maye had to leave the field injured, but backup Jacoby Brissett still led his team to victory.
Browns manage surprise against Ravens
The Cleveland Browns pulled off another surprise in the division duel with Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. The clear underdogs managed a 29:24 victory in the first game after the serious injury to quarterback Deshaun Watson.
Jameis Winston, who replaced Watson, threw for a sensational 334 yards and three touchdowns. Even MVP candidate Jackson couldn’t keep up (289 passing yards, 46 rushing yards, 2 TDs).
Kicker vermiest Tagovailoa-Comeback
During Tua Tagovailoa’s comeback after his concussion, his Miami Dolphins were defeated by the Arizona Cardinals 27:28. Arizona kicker Chad Ryland hit the game-tying field goal as time expired.
For the Dolphins, running back De’Von Achane had 97 rushing yards, and Tagovailoa threw for 234 yards and a touchdown in his comeback, which Achane caught. On the other side, Kyler Murray dominated with 307 passing yards and two touchdown passes.
