Academy: Philippe Barraud back, other changes to come?

As revealed by Ouest-France, Philippe Barraud is preparing to make his return to Stade Rennais, probably as director of recruitment. Enough to provoke other changes?

Life at Stade Rennes is not easy, and the last few weeks have shown that. Ten days after the thunderclap of the announcement of the replacement of Olivier Cloarec by Arnaud Pouille, another surprise comes to liven up the week of the Breton club. As revealed by Ouest-FrancePhilippe Barraud is preparing to make his return to Stade Rennes. On the Nice side, this news would have been welcomed with “a great surprise and a certain wrath”according to The Team.

Historical director of recruitment for SRFC, Barraud left the club at the end of last season, for OGC Nice. An announcement that left ” speechless “ Denis Arnaud, director of the training center since 2020. Barely five months after his departure, Philippe Barraud will therefore return to his post, since his successor Jérôme Solentini, who also arrived just a few months ago, has also announced his departure, at the SRFC this Monday.

Last change?

This movement is surprising, given the end of Barraud’s history at the Academy. Mastermind of the youth recruitment strategy, his relations with Denis Arnaud have remained very fresh for several months, unlike those he maintains with Florian Maurice, who also moved from Rennes to Nice this summer. Will Barraud and Arnaud reform the trio completed by Corentin Bataille (pre-training) as before?

During his presentation last Thursday, Arnaud Pouille identified “Two missions. The first, training. The first actions were to better understand, Stade Rennes is a first-class training center and I know that this contributes to the mission of Stade Rennes”before continuing further, “The first point is therefore to ensure that in terms of training, Stade Rennes really remains at the top”. The emphasis placed on this point by the new president is therefore already materialized by this first decision.

If the Academy has seen numerous departures in recent months (Aurélien Montaroup, Jérôme Hiaumet, Fabrice Do Marcolino, Trésor Luntala, Pierre-Emmanuel Bourdeau), that of Philippe Barraud was probably the most notable. It will soon be ancient history. It remains to be seen whether the SRFC will maintain its current operation, or whether it will make other changes.
