Advance Online – Dojo instead of plenary hall: State Parliament member Appel trains with the judo club

“I have long been enthusiastic about the judo club’s sporting and community commitment. For this reason, I invited the club as my guest to the ‘Evening of Sports‘ in the Hessian state parliament. At that time I had promised to make a return visit to the dojo – and not only to talk about the club’s work and club sports in the traditional way, but also to take part in a training session myself. I was very happy to keep this promise today,” said Appel during his visit.

In addition to taking part in the training, it was also about current topics in the club’s work and the exchange with press officer Daniel Dubs and youth officer Tino Vogel. The focus was on, among other things, the club structures, the promotion of young talent and the diverse challenges of club life. “Judo is more than physical strength, but also to a significant extent mental resilience. By training together we were able to introduce Patrick Appel to the values and techniques of judo in a special way. We were very pleased that we were invited to the ‘Evening of Sports’ in the Hessian state parliament. We were all very happy that he kept his promise and actually went to the mat with us. Politicians often talk about things, but they are rarely on site and willing to actively try things out themselves. It’s nice to see that direct exchange with the clubs and personal impressions on site are so important to him and that he’s willing to do such experiments on his own,” explained Daniel Dubs, the club’s press officer.

Appel was impressed by the club’s commitment and emphasized how important sports clubs are for the community: “Martial arts in particular are important elements of self-defense and self-assertion, which is important for both sporting and personal development, especially for young people. It was a special matter close to my heart and very important to keep my promise and not only talk about current club work and sports, but also actively participate in the training in order to gain a direct insight into the world of martial arts, self-assertion and self-defense . I was very impressed to see how much discipline and willpower judoka put into their sport. An exciting experience that I would be happy to do again at any time.”
