Africa Cup of Nations 2025: Super Eagles still stuck at airport 12 hours after arriving in Libya – Complete Sports

The Nigerian delegation for Tuesday’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya remains stranded at Ablaq airport 12 hours after arriving in Libya.

Just as the pilot was about to complete the approach to Benghazi Airport, the ValueJet charter plane diverted in a strange and dangerous way to a small airport far away from Benghazi.

Al Abrakh International Airport is used only for Hajj operations.

Exhausted players and officials remained bewildered as the host Libyan Football Association did not send any reception team or even vehicles to transport the delegation members from the airport to their hotel three hours’ drive from Benghazi.

The Nigeria Football Federation had arranged for separate vehicles for the team, but plans were disrupted when the plane was diverted.

The players have decided not to participate in the competition as Nigeria Football Federation officials are planning to send the team back home.

The Nigeria Football Federation is preparing to book hotel rooms for players and officials near the aforementioned airports, but all hotels contacted said they have been instructed not to accommodate Nigerians.

The crew also went looking for a hotel room but received the same response.
