Nicky Hayen was happy to see it all happen. Club Brugge achieved a logical victory against the deserving Belisia Bilzen in the Croky Cup, but more importantly for the national champion: all “lost sons” can laugh again after tonight. Jutgla, Romero, Skoras and even the returning Nilsson and Meijer were allowed to celebrate a goal.
Goals:
15′ Jutgla: 1-0
17′ Jutgla: 2-0
24′ Romero: 3-0
37′ Valcke: 3-1
64′ Nilsson: 4-1
68′ Meijer: 5-1
88′ Score: 6-1
In fact, Club Brugge could only lose tonight, but of all the first division teams, it may have used this cup evening to its advantage the best.
Nicky Hayen smartly showed his backbone (Read: Vanaken, Onyedika and Skov Olsen) against amateur club Belisia Bilzen, and thus gave some lost sons the opportunity to show themselves again in that safe environment.
And that would turn out to be a formula for success.
Although it was Belisia that signed for the first chance in Jan Breydel, Jutgla then grabbed his chance with both hands. The striker’s status has systematically crumbled in recent weeks, but he was finally allowed to celebrate again. He freed himself (and Club Brugge) with two goals in just two minutes.
Not much later, the often criticized Romero would also polish his reputation with a goal – although it came after an impossible pinball phase.
Anyway, Nicky Hayen was happy to see it all happen: Jutgla and Romero can laugh again, the forgotten Nielsen was important again and the Siquet/Sabbe duo also showed themselves to be active in what were much-needed playing minutes for them.
Belisia out of control
Yet we cannot simply attribute Belisia a supporting role tonight. The amateur club presented itself bravely against Club Brugge and admirably often looked for the footballing solution.
And so the visitors’ section went completely crazy just before half-time. Deep striker Sam Valcke – not coincidentally a former player at Cercle Brugge – took a long ball excellently on his chest and then aimed the ball into the net via the intersection: 3-1.
Even the home crowd treated Valcke to a nice round of applause.
Comeback-boys
Yet it would mean no more than a footnote in a match that would have a symbolic final stage for Club Brugge.
Hayen had seen his opportunity to also let Nilsson and Meijer – who have not appeared on a field since May – celebrate their return after frustrating injuries.
With success: barely a few minutes after coming on as a substitute, the “comeback boys” would immediately prove important to the home team. First Nilsson scored from Meijer’s cross, but not much later the Dutchman took his own chance.
The fact that Skoras was also able to accurately put the 6-1 on the board completed the evening for Club Brugge – which Belisia can thank for an animated game of football.
Reactions after the match:
END: 6-1
Nicky Hayen was happy to see it all happen. Club Brugge achieved a logical victory against the deserving Belisia Bilzen in the Croky Cup, but more importantly for the national champion: all “lost sons” can laugh again after tonight. Jutgla, Romero, Valcke and even the returning Nilsson and Meijer were allowed to celebrate a goal.
Goal Club Brugge: 5-1
The perfect evening for Club Brugge. Meijer can also immediately celebrate his return with a goal. The Dutchman runs well in space and metronome Jashari sees that too. The Dutchman knocks Verhulst with his head via a long lob. A gigantic smile appears on Meijer’s face.
Goal Club Brugge: 4-1
A beautiful moment at Club Brugge. Barely a minute after their substitutions, the “comeback boys” Nilsson and Meijer – back on the field for the first time since May – are again important for Club Brugge. The returning Dutchman immediately plays his striker excellently during a counter-attack. Nilsson does not hesitate and pushes the 4-1.
Heading opportunity Vandecaetsbeek
There’s Belisia again. The busy visitors can score another corner. Number 10, Wijnen, shows his excellent kicking technique again and paints the leather on Vandecaetsbeek’s head with a brush stroke. The Belisia captain nods well to the Jackers cage, but he ends up with a good parade. Danger passed.
Not 4-1
After Belisia’s sloppy loss of ball, Vanaken sends his striker Jutgla alone towards Davino Verhulst’s goal. The Catalan striker is not selfish and plays the ball to Skov Olsen, who seems to score easily. But the linesman whistles back: offside for Jutgla.
A rehearsed song. After a quick shot by Sabbe, Siquet is allowed to kick another corner. This time the full-back does not swing the ball in front of the cage, he pushes the ball to the edge of the large rectangle where Nielsen enters. The Dane immediately takes a swing at the bouncing ball, but sends his shot high into the stands.
START 2ND HALF
The ball rolls again in the Jan Breydel Stadium. The two trainers send the same teams between the lines. Follow the rest of the match here or listen on Radio 1.
RUST: 3-1
Club Brugge goes to the dressing room with a deserved lead. Although Belisia scored the first chance of the game and also scored a wonderful goal – via ex-Cercle Bruggeling Sam Valcke – Club dominated the first half. The logical consequence: 3-1. Jutgla (2x) and Romero were the lucky goal scorers on duty with the satisfied home team.
Goal Club Brugge: 6-1
All prodigal sons can laugh again. After an excellent ball from Jashari, Skoras also scored his chance: 6-1. A perfect evening for Club Brugge.
Club Brugge has few problems with Belisia for the time being.
Nicolas De Brabander
The waves of attacks on Club Brugge’s right flank follow in rapid succession. Sabbe sends Skov Olsen away again. The Dane keeps it sober, but does find his striker brother Jutgla around the penalty point. Hat trick? No, the Club Brugge striker cracks his shot.
Goal Belisia: 3-1
Sam Valcke surprises friend and foe with a wonderful goal. The ex-Cercle Bruggeling takes a long ball excellently and aims the ball into the Jackers cage via the intersection. Even the home crowd treats him to applause.
In the initial phase it took some time to find automatisms at the rotated Club Brugge, but after that things suddenly went very quickly. In the meantime, the home team has a comfortable lead.
Nicolas De Brabander
Nicky Hayen likes to see it all happen. Everyone who should be building up confidence tonight is certainly doing so. Jutgla revives with 2 goals, Nielsen is important again, the scoring Romero can also smile again and the Sabbe/Siquet duo is very active in these much-needed minutes.
Goal Club Brugge: 3-0
Club Brugge continues to push forward. After a good cross from the ever-busy Nielsen, a pinball moment occurs in front of the goal. Romero needs two shots (the first hits Vanaken), but the Argentinian also gets his shot: 3-0.
Goal Club Brugge: 2-0
Things are suddenly moving quickly for Club Brugge. Skov Olsen crosses the field and sends Jutgla alone to Davino Verhulst’s goal. The Catalan striker hits his second shot against the net. In this way he seems to mainly redeem himself.
This will please Jutgla. He has not had the best weeks and has dropped to second or even third striker at Club Brugge.
Nicolas De Brabander
Goal Club Brugge: 1-0
The prodigal sons do it for Club Brugge. Nielsen sends a measured cross towards Jutgla’s head. This time the striker has no doubts. He convincingly puts the lead on the board. His first goal of the season.
The “djoef on the mouth of the week” is also known here. After a pushing error in the large rectangle, Belisia captain Vandecaetsbeek still takes his chance. He drives hard towards the goal, but the ball slams into Nielsen’s face – who falls to the ground.
Romero nods “no”
The Skov Olsen effect? Club Brugge can mainly be found on the right flank. This is how Sabbe and co craft. also a corner kick together. Prodigal son Siquet sends an excellent ball into the large rectangle, but Romero cannot place his header. Danger passed for Belisia.
After the scary moment, Club Brugge demands the ball. Skov Olsen in particular (briefly in a central role) briefly acts as a magnet for the leather. The Dane also sets up the home team’s first attack, but after a good transition moment, Skoras cannot find Hans Vanaken’s head.
Blitzkrieg Belize
Belisia Bilzen’s first warning is immediately a fact. After barely a minute of play, Hans Vanaken gives the ball away to his opponent. Nordin Jackers is immediately put to work after a misplaced cross. Jan Breydel shakes his head collectively.
Siquet’s bolt
There was almost Siquet’s moment. The right wing defender played a creditable game and quickly cashed in with a goal. During a stagnant phase, he showed off his excellent kicking technique again – even though his arrow exploded at the intersection.

Basic eleven Belisia Bilzen
Besides goalkeeper Davino Verhulst, there are few well-known names on the scoresheet of amateur club Belisia Bilzen, although striker Sam Valcke also brings some first-class experience from his time at Cercle Brugge to the table. This is the full line-up:
Verhulst – Vandecaetsbeek – Chantrain – Baik – Maus – Wijnen – Nelissen – Stassen – Lathouwers – Valcke – Etien.
Experience under the bar
After the cup upset against Lommel, Belisia has strengthened itself with the arrival of Davino Verhulst. The former goalkeeper of Lokeren, STVV and Genk brings a lot of experience with him at 36 years old. He has been in goal in the past 4 games and Belisia scored 10 out of 12 with 2 goals conceded.
Davino Verhulst as goalkeeper of Lokeren:
Amateur stunt team
Belisia Bilzen became champion in 2nd National last year, for Sporting Hasselt. This year the Limburg club is continuing the good trend. It is 5th in 1st National and has already survived 3 rounds in the Croky Cup. In the 5th round they won with a big 3-0 against Stockay, in the previous round they defeated second division Lommel 0-1.
Strong starting team Club
Nicky Hayen rotates for the cup intermezzo, but the core of Club is equipped in such a way that it will play with a particularly strong starting team tonight. On the one hand, Siquet, Sabbe and Nielsen can start again. On the other hand, Hayen can also count on regulars such as Vanaken, Onyedika and Skov Olsen.
The starting eleven of Club Brugge: Jackers – Sabbe – Spileers, – Romero – Siquet – Onyedika – Vanaken – Nielsen – Skov Olsen – Jutgla – Skoras.
