Alphonso Davies is thriving under Vincent Kompany – and is making things really difficult for FCB

27 actions by Alphonso Davies led loudly FBref this season to a finish in the Bundesliga. This makes it 4.29 per 90 minutes. These can be dribbles, assists, set pieces taken, offensive tackles. 23 of these 27 actions were passes.

This makes him the third strongest defender in the league – behind Álex Grimaldo (6.24 per 90 minutes) and Marius Wolf (5.14). Raphaël Guerreiro (4.28) and David Raum (4.27) follow him directly. A possible interpretation of this number would be: This could be better.

But the much more sensible interpretation is: Precisely because Guerreiro, who often played as a right-back at FC Bayern, is also very active, the number is quite high. Especially since another comparison is much more important: his best value in the Bundesliga is 3.88 and dates from the 2022/23 season.

It’s just a statistical value. But one that underlines the impression that Davies is gradually finding his old strength under new coach Vincent Kompany. And that his performance puts FC Bayern in a situation in which the club could have second thoughts – and perhaps too late.
