The Spanish paddlers María Xiao and Álvaro Robles have secured the bronze in the European Championship of table tennis in the mixed doubles modality, informs the RFETM. The Olympic duo in Paris 2024 beat Filip Zeljko and Andrea Pavlovic, a Croatian couple, in the quarterfinals this Thursday. The tournament is being held in Linz (Austria)

Now the French Simon Gauzy and Prithika Pavadebut that will be this Friday after a few hours of rest.

Before, it was a tough day that began with a solid victory in the round of 16 against the Germans Andre Bertelsmeier and Mia Griesel by 3-1 (11-4, 11-5, 5-11, 12-10), showing great dominance in the two first sets and overcoming the comeback attempt of their rivals in the fourth, reports the RFETM. Later in the quarterfinals, against the Croatians, Robles and Xiao won 3-0 (11-9, 11-7, 11-8) without giving their rivals any options.

“One of the keys to this match and everything we’ve had in the championship has been the type of preparation, not only at a tactical level, but also in reducing unforced errors“Robles stated in statements provided by the Federation.

It is the first medal in the mixed modality, although both were already medalists in doubles in their respective categories previously. Robles has been a medal silver in men’s doubles at the 2019 World Championshipsforming a pair with the Romanian Ovidiu Ionescu. For its part, Xiao repeat -for now- bronze after the one achieved with Adina Diaconu at the European Championship in Munich 2022.
