<a href="https://www.archysport.com/2022/01/the-calm-before-the-storm-judo-news/” title=”The calm before the storm – Judo News”>Amandine Buchard‘s dream takes on a little more depth. The judoka, bronze medalist at the Paris Games individually, and gold in the team, dreams of participating in the Los Angeles Olympics in judo and rugby sevens. To carry out this double Olympic project, she joined the Stade Français , the club announced on Friday.
Amandine Buchard “thus joins the Judo section of the Stade Français omnisports and the Rugby section” explains the club in a press release, adding that the Stade Français “will support her humanly, sportingly and financially”. “Since our first discussions, the club immediately showed sincere interest in my dual project, combining my passions for judo and rugby,” explained the athlete, quoted in the club press release.
Double licence
Individual silver medalist at Tokyo 2021 and bronze at Paris 2024 in the -52 kg category, the 29-year-old judoka announced this summer after the Olympics that she wanted to lead a double project with a view to Los Angeles 2028, also lining up both in judo and in rugby 7s. Amandine Buchard, who played rugby in her youth, left the PSG judo section this summer, with whom this project was not compatible, she then explained.
She will play part of the season with the Rugby Club Noisy-le-Grand – Marne-la-Vallée, in Fédérale 2 (4th division), a partner club of Stade Français with which she started playing last weekend.
“She will have a double license allowing her to also play with the Pink Rockets”, the women’s team at Stade Français, specifies the club. Amandine Buchard “will therefore benefit from the sports infrastructures in Jean-Bouin”.
The Pinki Rockets play in Elite 2, the second national level, after being relegated last year and count in their squad two players from the French rugby sevens team who participated in the Games in Paris, Anne-Cécile Ciofani and Camille Grassineau. A six-time world medalist in judo, Buchard is also a double European champion.
