It is in a very sad way that the week ended in Saint-Saëns, in Seine-Maritime.
The firefighters were alerted on Friday October 25 in the morning that a fire had broken out in a pavilion on rue de la Roulière.
When firefighters arrived, they found a deceased person, an 87-year-old man, in the house.
“We had to tell the sad news to his daughter, who lives a few houses away from the scene”indicated Gilles Frelaut, the first deputy of the municipality.
Thirteen fire trucks
From 6 a.m., thirteen trucks were on scene to put out the fire. The first floor of the house was completely engulfed in flames and heavy smoke was coming from the attic.
It’s onlyaround 8:30 a.m. the firefighters managed to put out the worst of the flames said Captain Julien Paillette, commander of rescue operations.
The fire was brought under control around 10:30 a.m. but clearing operations were still underway..
An investigation, led by the gendarmerie, was opened to determine the causes of the fire.
The town hall of Saint-Saëns informed that it was providing the technical services necessary to meet the needs of the family of the deceased.
