Andre Drummond chooses his team for his retirement

There was a time when <a href="https://www.archysport.com/2022/01/for-joel-embiid-there-is-no-urgency-to-modify-the-workforce-of-the-sixers-nba/" title="For Joel Embiid, there is no urgency to modify the workforce of the Sixers | NBA“>Andre Drummond was considered one of the best centers in the NBA. It was just before the three-point revolution and the desire to have five potential shooters on the court. It was a time when getting rebounds and defending the rim was crucial and yes, in such a scenario, the current Philadelphia 76ers player moved like a fish in water.

Now during an intervention in the podcast Run your racethe center The 31-year-old remembers his time in Detroit, where he spent seven years becoming a two-time All-Star and leading the league in rebounds four times. He only made the playoffs twice, but he connected with the city and fans enough to understand why he wouldn’t retire somewhere else.

“I still call Detroit home today. I still have a home in Detroit simply because of the connection I have to the city. I feel like I became a man in this city… I grew up there a lot. I met some of my best friends and developed a relationship with the Detroit fanbase and community. I’ve always said I want to finish my career there. The year I retire I want to end up in Detroit. That’s where I started and that’s where I want to end,” he says.

Drummond is the second all-time rebounder in Pistons history, behind only Bill Laimbeer. He also ranks third in the franchise in blocked shots. Yes, maybe he didn’t shine because of the collective victories, but his contribution is beyond doubt.
