Andrej Rublev, 27, was forced to have flash surgery after the US Open.

The Russian was just hours away from being forced to amputate one of his testicles.

I almost lost my ballsays the tennis star.

Andrej Rublev withdrew from the US Open at the beginning of September. The Russian fell in a five-setter against Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 16.

Soon after, the idea was that the 27-year-old would participate in the Hangzhou Open, but he unexpectedly withdrew due to illness and then did not compete for a month.

Now we know the reason.

After the exit from the US Open, the world number seven felt great pain in one testicle and asked to have it checked. A decision he hardly regrets in retrospect.

– I don’t really know how to say it in a sensible way, but I can try to do it in a funny way, says Rublev according to Daily Mail.

“Five or six hours”

The following quote probably works best in English:

I almost lost my ballsays the tennis star.

Andrey Rublev was forced into a flash operation which, fortunately, went well.

– I was really lucky. They told me that I only had five or six hours until the blood circulation to the testicle would stop and then it would have meant amputation, says the Russian.

Now the tennis player is pain free.

Rublev took part in the Stockholm Open this past week, but fell in the quarter-finals against Stan Wawrinka.
