The Venezuelan baseball player Andres Gimenezlike the Dominican Juan Soto and the Puerto Rican Seth Lugo, sWith three of the 18 Latin players who join the list of finalists who this year will fight to win the Gold Glove award, after the MLB announced this year’s candidates.
The Creole, who is seeing action in the postseason with the Cleveland Guardians, has already won the Gold Glove at second base on a couple of occasions, including last year, when he was also chosen as the winner of the Platinum Glove, as the best defensive player in the American League.
It must be remembered that in order to choose the winners of the nine traditional positions, the 30 managers who live in the Big League and even a total of six coaches from each team voted for the players from their league, obviously excluding the players from your own team.
These votes constitute 75 percent of the total selection, while the Sabr Defensive Index counts for the other 25 percent.
For the utility position, Rawlings collaborated with Sabr to create a specialized defensive formula, separate from the traditional selection process.
Venezuelan Gabriel Moreno, of the Diamondbacks, will try to become the first catcher to repeat this award in the National League since Puerto Rican Yadier Molina.
Both leagues have three finalists at each position, including the utility position, which was awarded for the first time in 2022.
The winners are scheduled to be revealed on ESPN’s “Baseball Tonight” program on November 3.
