Bilbao Athletic continues the good feelings shown last week in Urritxe. The red-and-white subsidiary, far from repeating the fiascos that caused them to have three consecutive defeats, stood up and was superior for much of the match against an entire Ponferradina team, one of the big favorites for promotion in this group 1 of the First Federation. In fact, the rojiblancos deserved to win another victory, which they were deprived of by an imperial Andrés Prieto in the rival goal.

Bilbao Athletic

Prieto; Carrique, Sibille, Andújar, Álvaro Ramón; Doué, Left, Mule; Cabanzón (Ernesto, min. 70), Borja Valle (Abelenda (min. 82), Mula (Bustos, min. 62); Álex Costa (Jürgens, min. 70).

  • ARBITRATOR
Ramo Andrés, from the Aragonese school, admonished the locals Duñabeitia (min. 50) and Johaneko (min. 90) and the visitors Álex Costa (min. 31), Esquerdo (min. 75) and Bustos (min. 88).

During the first half, there was a match with a lot of control on both sides. Jokin Aranbarri’s men were the owners of possession, but it was difficult for them to do damage between the closely spaced lines of their rival, who also exerted great pressure in the middle block. Therefore, it was a truce for the first 45 minutes, with the exception of ten minutes, where the puppies could have taken the lead, if not for the providential interventions of Andrés Prieto in goal. He saved his people on several occasions.

The first to knock on the door, thirteen minutes into the game, was Gerenabarrena with a header from a corner that forced the goalkeeper to make a great dive. Three minutes later, Varela made a masterful individual play, dribbling past three rivals, but Prieto prevented what would have been a Maradonian goal. Shortly after, the goalkeeper with a past in the First Division also stood in the way of Azkune and Johaneko’s shots. It was a wall between the sticks against the red and white superiority, which was diluted in the last minutes of the first half.

Andrés Prieto’s show would also continue after passing through the changing rooms. In the 58th minute, he took a prodigious hand on a Gerenabarrena header, when the respectable player was already getting up from their seats. From that moment on, the match was more open, without any clear dominator and without very notable actions in attack. Of course, the best news of the second period was the return of the promising Aingeru Olabarrieta, after more than a month out due to an injury to his right knee. The talented 18-year-old winger was about to score from a direct free kick, but, of course, he ran into another save from the Alicante goalkeeper.
