Wuelfrath. The judo department of TSV Einigkeit Dornap-Düssel was once again able to draw attention to itself through sporting success. It was Anton Albrecht who was able to impress in competitions in his age group.
Shortly after Anton Albrecht drew attention to himself with the silver medal at the U17 age group screening tournament a few weeks ago, the NRW state coach appointed him to the state squad. On October 5th, Albrecht had his first mission in Munich-Großhadern. The 14-member NRW mixed team prevailed against twelve other national teams.
After a total of seven team fights there was a positive balance of 48:8 fights.
In the final, North Rhine-Westphalia defeated the national team from Austria with 4:4 (under score 40:37) points and won the gold medal.
A week later, on October 12th, Anton Albrecht went straight to the international Bayer Cup in Leverkusen. A total of 357 judoka from the U17 and U20 age groups started in the respective weight classes. Albrecht competed in the over 81 kilogram weight class in a starting field of 13 participants. In his first fight he defeated his opponent using ippon in just 22 seconds.
He only lost to the eventual gold medalist after almost three minutes. In the small final Anton then “closed the bag”. In just 1.17 minutes he defeated his opponent and won the bronze medal. So he has now earned his autumn break.
