In the 1st round game of the South Zone of the 1st phase of the National Championship, the women’s roller hockey team from Benfica beat APAC Tojal, 0-4. The match took place this Saturday, October 26th, at the Poliesportivo de São Julião do Tojal.
Six days after the conquest of 11th Super Cup From its CV, Benfica met APAC Tojal again, this time in its debut in the 2024/25 National Championship.
For the game – without being able to count on Marlene Sousa, out of options due to an injury –, Paulo Almeida chose a initial five composed of Maria Vieira, Aimée Blackman, Maria Sofia Silva, Rita Batista and Raquel Santos.
The red-blacks accumulated several opportunities in the first five minutes of the match, the most blatant for Aimee Blackmanwho, at 3′, shot into the side net of the goal and then over it.
When recovering the ball and counterattacking, Benfica unquestionably dominated the game, and it didn’t take long to make the opponent’s nets swing. Node minute 6, Maria Sofia Silva found space on the right of the attack and shot accurately towards the 0-1.

To the 30′Elena Tamiozzo found Raquel Santos behind Bárbara Andrade’s goal and made the ball arrive. With a low kick, the Portuguese international scored the 0-4completing an encore in the match.
Two opportunities followed for APAC Tojal, which, at 31′ and to 33′respectively, benefited from the execution of a penal and of a direct free. We face to face with Sara Fernandes and Adriana Costa, Maria Vieira was imperial and kept the goal immaculate.
The Eagles still had good moments in attack, particularly in the 45th minute, when Bárbara Andrade opposed a strong shot from Raquel Santos. With no more goals scored until the 50 minutes were up, Benfica left the game with the victory, 0-4and with the first three points in the race!
