The archery was put in the spotlight during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. On the Esplanade des Invalides or on television, many people have (re)discovered this discipline. To celebrate the resumption of the season, the Archers of Caen unveil the first edition of the “<a href="https://www.archysport.com/2024/10/archery-the-big-ten-trophy-a-competition-with-a-special-format-for-the-caen-archers/" title="Archery. The “Big Ten Trophy”, a competition with a special format for the Caen Archers“>Big Ten Trophy”, their first leisure competition.

We organize two competitions during the year, one indoors and one outdoors. But they are in competition format, with a ranking which determines qualifications for the French championships. The Big Ten Trophy is just for fun.

A duel format like in the Olympic Games

The discipline was very popular during Paris 2024, especially since French athletes distinguished themselves. But during the Games, viewers only saw the duels. What they may not know is how the posters for these duels are decided. “There is what we call qualifying shooting,” explains Damien Hébert. The archers each shoot a series of arrows. The points are counted, added and a ranking is established which then determines the duels. » For this competition, the qualifying shot will only be 10 arrows per archer, compared to 60 in official competition. Archers will therefore get to the heart of the matter more quickly.

The duels are the most concrete thing, especially for the spectators. There will be individual duels for men and women, but also mixed duels.

No minimum ranking required

Since the competition does not offer any qualification for another competition, archers of all levels are allowed to participate. The Archers of Caen nevertheless inform that it is obligatory to be licensed to the French Archery Federation (FFTA) and to have their own equipment (personal or rental). “We have archers from the club who will participate, but also from other structures,” reveals Damien Hébert. We can accommodate up to 102 participants over the two days, and there is still room. » The competition will be divided between, on one side, compound bows and, on the other, recurve and bare bows.

On Saturday we will have the compound bows, which we saw at the Paralympic Games. On Sunday, it will be recurve bows and bare bows, which are less common.
