Arteta or Kompany? Lokonga opens a book

After several difficult years, <a href="https://www.archysport.com/2022/01/ten-arsenal-players-keep-liverpool-in-check-at-anfield-carabao-cup-2021-2022/" title="Ten Arsenal players keep Liverpool in check at Anfield | Carabao Cup 2021/2022″>Albert Sambi Lokonga is trying to launch his career again this season at Sevilla FC. The Spanish club rents him with a purchase option from Arsenal, where the one-time Red Devil has not really been able to continue in recent years.

Lokonga has only praise for Arteta

The Gunners paid 18 million euros in 2021 to sign Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht. His first six months went quite well, but after that our compatriot disappeared more and more from the picture. Loans to Crystal Palace and Luton Town also yielded mixed success.

Mikel Arteta no longer counted on Lokonga this summer, who nevertheless has nothing bad to say about the Spanish trainer. “He is the trainer with whom I have worked the longest and from whom I have learned the most,” he says at Relevo. “He is always ready for a conversation, but on the pitch he is extremely demanding. That is the only way to manage a club like Arsenal.”

Still in contact with Lokonga

In his relatively young career, Lokonga has already collaborated with some big names. At Crystal Palace he briefly had the legendary French ex-midfielder Patrick Vieira as coach, before Roy Hodgson took over. And at Anderlecht Vincent Kompany was of course his trainer.

“We still have a very good relationship. Sometimes I still get a message from him,” says Lokonga about the current coach of Bayern Munich. “It’s very good to have such a legend who takes care of you and gives you advice. I am very grateful for a mentor like Vincent.”
