Arthur Fils dominates Daniel Altmaier and advances to the round of 16 in Basel

Thanks to his successes in Hamburg in July, then in Tokyo at the beginning of the month, Arthur Fils (20th in the world) remained on a series of ten consecutive victories in the ATP 500. This Monday, he added an eleventh to his collection, dominating in the first round of Basel Daniel Altmaier, 82nd (7-6 [5]6-3). He thus joins Ugo Humbert, who had beaten Jérôme Kym two hours earlier (6-4, 6-7 [5]7-5).

Son’s victory is not subject to any discussion but the score is a bit misleading. The Frenchman found himself in difficulty in each of the sets. In the first, he had to save two break points in the sixth game and especially two set points at 4-5, which he dismissed with an ace, then with a volley. But Altmaier cracked in the tie-break by committing a double fault on the second set point.
