Aryna Sabalenka replaces Iga Swiatek as world number one.
In the ranking published on Monday, the Belarusian appears with 9,706 points ahead of the Pole (9,665), who had spent the entire year in the top position with a sometimes large lead.
Sabalenka was in first place for seven weeks in autumn 2023.
Swiatek last played at the US Open and failed in the quarter-finals, and then skipped the following Asian tournaments.
Australian Open winner Sabalenka, however, triumphed at the US Open and also at the WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan. That’s why she finally overtook her competitor, who had been 4,224 points ahead after her Wimbledon triumph.
The annual finish at the WTA finals (November 2nd – 9th in Riyadh) therefore offers an exciting starting point.
N1…. Let’s see for how long this time 🙌🤞❤️
