As an ungrateful 3rd through to the next round: Anderlecht cannot get past Cartagena in the Champions League

The top position was there for the taking, but Anderlecht could not get past the Spanish champion Cartagena in its final match of the qualifying groups for the Elite Round in the Champions League: 4-4. The Purple & White advance to the next round, but only in third place – which is not a favorable starting position.

In a match without direct action, the Spaniards of Cartagena took the lead thanks to a goal by Gon Castejon in the first half.

RSCA Futsal, which was playing for the top position and a better starting position in the Champions League, struck back in the second half: Antonio Sekulic and Cainan quickly turned things around.

Yet the Spaniards hit back in the extensive game of well-wishers: Gabriel Motta, Waltinho and Mellado gave the visitors a 4-2 lead again in a strong period.

But RSCA did not give up and managed to equalize thanks to an own goal from Tomaz Braga and a goal from Steven Dillien.

The 4-4 draw ultimately gives RSCA Futsal third place in Group 1 with four points, just behind Cartagena and Bielsko-Biala.

By finishing third, RSCA Futsal is assured of participation in the Elite Round of the Champions League Futsal, where 16 teams are divided into four groups. Only the group winners get a place in the Final Four, which RSCA reached last season.
