We only have a few months left to enjoy Richard Gasquet, who recently announced that he would retire next year at Roland Garros.
The Frenchman who has delighted us for many years with his one-handed backhand will therefore participate next week in his very last Rolex Paris Masters, during which he will face the Italian Flavio Cobolli in the first round.
He explained on the microphone of France Inter his state of mind now that he has announced his retirement and knows that he is playing his very last tournaments.
“There will obviously be less stress. It’s a bit special because it’s the last tournaments, you know that it’s over so you want to do well and have fun too. We enjoy it but it’s a little scary. Of course there is a life behind it but it was an important part of my life. It’s going to feel a little weird to stop, that’s for sure, because you have sensations that are unique. It was obvious. I will be 39 years old when I stop at Roland‐Garros. If I could play all my life I would, but the physical aspect is not the same thing! »
