Cyril Pagès died suddenly at the age of 52: technical manager of the French judo center in Orléans in the 2000s, for a time in charge of women in this structure, he was seconded to the French parajudo team for a dozen years, with great results.
He was a familiar face in Orléans judo and French parajudo. Cyril Pagès died suddenly at the age of 52, more than forty of whom were spent on the tatami mats.
Seconded to the French team since 2012
Former resident of the Orléans sport-studies (directed at the time by André Delvingt), medalist at the French 1st division championships, seen once at the Paris Tournament, this fighter from Indre-et-Loire devoted his entire life to his life in judo. He was technical manager of the French pole in Orléans in the 2000s, for a time in charge of the women’s team in this structure, before being seconded to the French parajudo team in 2012, just after the London Games that the tricolor delegation finished without a medal.
His greatest joys in parajudo
With this cap, Cyril Pagès had experienced his greatest joys, as he confided last winter in an interview published on the Centre-Val de Loire league website. He notably accompanied Sandrine Martinet (licensed during this period at US Orléans), when the lightweight judokate (-52 kg, then -48kg) won gold in Rio (2016) and Tokyo (2020).
“Leaving to go everywhere”
“He is an excellent judoka, atypical, a little secretive, who had become a very competent trainer,” remembers Patrick Méry. The technical advisor of the Loiret judo committee also remembers “an adventurer, in love with Africa, whom he had traveled with his camera”. One of his favorite phrases was “up to go anywhere”, with judogi meeting people, without judogi in search of landscapes.
