Mixed Doubles: Cheng Kuan Chen/Yin-Hui Hsu [TPE] v Nozomi Shimizu/Andika Ramadiansyah [AUS]
Australian pair Nozomi Shimizu and Andika Ramadiansyah have booked themselves into Sunday’s Roketto Sydney International Final after a dominant 21-18, 21-11 victory over Chinese Taipei’s Li-Wei Po and Yen Yu Lin.
After being knocked out during the Quarter Finals at last week’s YONEX Bendigo International, the pair from Sydney were determined to refine their unity on court.
“Last week we were so focused on just trying to win which caused us to overthink everything that we were doing on court,” Shimizu said.
“Whereas this week we have more experience together, are significantly more relaxed and have stronger communication on court.
“We both feel that our cohesion now comes through naturally and it has been a major reason for our strong performance this week in Sydney.”
Ramadiansyah added that a shift of focus away from looking at matches as a whole, but instead taking it “one point at a time” had been a major catalyst for their winning ways this week.
Overall Shimizu said she was very happy to have the opportunity to compete with Ramadiansyah in a Final.
“We will let each other take care of our responsibilities on court and let our cohesion do the work,” she said.
Yin-Hui Hsu and Cheng Kuan Chen defeated Singapore’s Eng Keat Wesley Koh and Jin Yu Jia 14-21, 21-19, 22-20 to secure their spot in the final.
Women’s Doubles: Chih Chen Lee/Yen Yu Lin [TPE] v Yin-Hui Hsu/Jhih Yun Lin [TPE]
Yin-Hui Hsu and Jhih Yun Lin had a tough challenge in their Semi Final match against Australians Gronya Somerville and Nozomi Shimizu.
The three-game thriller had several twists and turns, but in the end the Hsu and Lin defeated the Aussies 18-21, 21-16, 21-19.
It was smooth sailing for Chih Chen Lee and Yen Yu Lin in their 21-16, 21-17 win over fellow Chinese Taipei players Su Yu Chen and Yi En Hsieh.
Women’s Singles: Ching Ping Huang [TPE] in Ciou-Tong Tung [TPE]
Chinese Taipei’s Ciou-Tong Tung is thrilled to have another chance at a title victory after finishing runner-up last week at the YONEX Bendigo International.
Tung defeated Saena Kawakami in straight games 21-15, 21-12.
“I am proud of myself as I have another good opportunity for another win,” Ciou said via translator
“My aim is to try my best and not be too aggressive, I will just play naturally.”
Ching Ping Huang defeated Jaslyn Hooi [SGP] 21-15, 19-21, 21-17 in a 72-minute nail-biting match to move into the Final.
Men’s Singles: Shogo Ogawa [JPN] v Ping-Hsien Huang [TPE]
Japan’s Shogo Ogawa will look to secure his second title in a row when he meets Ping-Hsien Huang in the Men’s Singles Final.
Ogawa defeated Chia Hung Lu [TPE] 21-10, 21-12 with relative ease to set up Sunday’s Final against Huang, who defeated Alap Mishra [IND] 17-21, 21-10, 21-13 to secure his spot.
Men’s Doubles: Hiroki Midorikawa/Kyohei Yamashita [JPN] v Po Yu Lai/Fu Cheng Tsai [TPE]
It was an all Japan showdown in the first Men’s Doubles Semi-Final, with Hiroki Midorikawa and Kyohei Yamashita defeating Yoshifumi Fujisawa and Shuntaro Mezaki 21-11, 21-6.
Meanwhile, Chinese Taipei’s Po Yu Lai and Fu Cheng Tsai defeated Christian Bernardo and Alvin Morada [PHI] 21-18, 21-15.
