“Awards of the day” | Chapter 8: The day Carolina Marín changed flamenco for badminton

Carolina Marín‘s story with badminton was not love at first sight. The athlete showed her skills at a flamenco academy in her native Huelva until a friend discovered how exciting it could be to try to control the shuttlecock and the badminton racket. Although this year’s Princess of Sports Award has not yet arrived in Asturias, her exploits are very present among those who aspire to follow in her footsteps.

The badminton campus organized by the Princess Foundation in La Vega filled the facilities with athletes at all times that were made available to the public. An example of the versatility and attractiveness of La Vega, as explained by the Sports Councilor of the Oviedo City Council Conchita Méndez. It was not the only activity that was sold out; the collage workshop with Magnum Photos was also a great success with the public.

The agency’s education director urged participants to make a collage interpreting the history of the images. The results are visible to visitors who come to the exhibition these days. Serrat continues to provide the soundtrack to these awards although the not very “Mediterranean” climate in Asturias today forced the event to be changed and moved indoors.
