PSV Bork takes all podium places in the U17 boys’ singles in Ascheberg

At the weekend, seven badminton players from PSV Bork took part in the youth tournament in Ascheberg. In the U09/U11 singles, Philipp Albers achieved two clear victories in the group phase (21:5 and 21:2) with a narrow 19:21 defeat. This was enough to qualify for the quarterfinals. In addition to Borker, there were six players from Union Lüdinghausen (performance base of the German Badminton Association and member of the first Badminton Bundesliga) and the eventual tournament winner, who had come especially from Bremen, in the tournament. Philipp had to compete directly against the player from Bremen and was eliminated with 9:21 and 4:21.

In the U15 boys’ singles, Noah Brieke lost all three preliminary round games. This meant the tournament ended prematurely for him. In the women’s singles U17/U19/U22, Lavinja Laukamp lost the first game 13:21. In the second match she narrowly lost 19:21. In the third game she clearly won 21:9. Lavinja therefore had to rely on Anna Westerholt from Tus Ascheberg to help her progress. Unfortunately, the Ascheberg woman narrowly lost in her last preliminary round game with 19:21, so that Lavinja could not survive the preliminary round. In the men’s singles U17, Marc Alchoufi, Milad Alchoufi and Simon Woitinas competed for PSV. Also there was Max Wegener from TuS Scharnhorst, who also trains in Bork. Simon Woitinas suffered two defeats in the preliminary round and was eliminated. Max Wegener and Marc Alchoufi each won all preliminary round games and qualified for the knockout round as group winners. Milad Alchoufi also reached the quarterfinals as second in the group with two wins and one defeat. There, Max Wegener (21:1; 21:5) and Milad Alchoufi (21:10; 21:16) prevailed in two sets. Marc Alchoufi had to go through three sets. From the second round onwards, Marc adjusted better to his opponent’s game, avoided unnecessary crossdrops and deservedly won 20:22 in the end; 21:18; 21:12 through. Max Wegener and Milad Alchoufi met in the semi-finals. In a close match, Milad prevailed 20:22; 9:18 p.m. and 9:16 p.m. through. In the second semi-final, Marc Alchoufi secured his place in the final in two sets (21:17; 21:16). In the game for third place, Max Wegener started the game well with 21:17, but then briefly lost concentration in the second set and clearly lost the set with 6:21. In the third round, Max was there again and secured third place in the tournament with 21:16. As in the previous week in Werne, the brothers Milad and Marc Alchoufi faced each other in the final in Ascheberg. As usual, both played a game at a high level. In the end, as in Werne, Milad was ahead, this time he won in two sets with 21:15 and 21:19.
