The yellow-green pitcher, born in 2004, called up with the Italian national team for the 2024 Olympic Camp
Having concluded the season with the senior team of Athletics Bologna, pitcher Riccardo Nepoti is preparing to wear the blue jersey of the Italian national baseball team for the 2024 Olympic Camp. The yellow-green pitcher, born in 2004, was in fact called up by the manager of the senior national team Mike Piazza, former Major League player, to participate in the rally that will take place in the United States in the coming weeks.
The 2024 Olympic Camp, a gathering to continue the growth path of the Italian team in view of the qualifiers for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, officially began yesterday, 7 October, and will take place in Arizona and Florida. The first part will be played only by pitchers and catchers in the Surprise facility, home of the Kansas City Royals Spring Training. The second part of the gathering, however, will take place at the University of Tampa with the inclusion of the field players and with the Club Italia College Series where the Italian national team will face the Spartans, a team playing in Division II of the NCAA.
Nicky Lopez and Brett Sullivan will also participate in the Italian gathering, both MLB athletes, the former playing for the Chicago White Sox and the latter for the San Diego Padres and both of whom took the field with Italy in the 2023 Classic.
These are Nepoti’s words before leaving for the Italian retreat: “I am happy to be able to take part in what could be the most important meeting of the season. We are in America and we will have the opportunity to work and train with various Minors coaches as well as with some international athletes. It will be an intense two weeks and I will try to give my all as well as trying to learn as much as possible from this very important opportunity.“
