Basketball Canada | Retirement time for Denise Dignard

After 26 years within the Basketball Canada organization, notably as general director / executive vice-president of women’s high performance, the original Port-Cartoise, Denise Dignard, will move on to something else in mid-November.

Ms. Dignard has indicated her intention to retire on November 15.

She notably led the senior women’s national team to a fourth place in the FIBA ​​world rankings in addition to having been leader of the Canadian team at five Olympic Games.

“It has been a great honor to have served our Canadian women’s high performance program and to have led the development of one of the best international women’s basketball programs,” said Denise Dignard, in a Basketball Canada press release.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all generations of women’s national team athletes for their immense dedication and long-term commitment to representing Canada over the years. You have inspired me and an entire nation with what you have accomplished and what you continue to do on and off the field as role models and ambassadors,” she adds.

The City of Port-Cartier honored Ms. Dignard in 2018 for her basketball career, giving her name to the Center Cartier gymnasium.
