After winning the cup round of 16, FC Bayern Munich suffered a setback in the Euroleague. In Belgrade they dug too big a hole for themselves in the first half. Belgrade (dpa) – The FC Bayern Munich basketball players also lost their second away game in the Euroleague. Coach Gordon Herbert’s team suffered a 78:86 (32:49) defeat at Partizan Belgrade.
A weak first half with too many ball losses was crucial. After an even start, Bayern suffered a 0:13 run, and after nine minutes the guests were behind 11:24. By then, Belgrade had sunk six of its seven three-pointers, and national player Isaac Bonga, who moved from Munich to Belgrade in the summer, was successful twice.
Former Berlin player Sterling Brown was another Bundesliga player from last year who hurt Bayern. Brown gave the guests 16 points in the first half. Munich’s deficit grew to a difference of up to 22 points, and with a changed defense, Bayern reduced it to 32:49 at the break. After losing 13 balls in the first half, Bayern started the third half more focused and found their rhythm. Belgrade fended off a first Munich comeback and extended its lead to 19 points. Three minutes before the end of the game, the guests reduced the lead to 72:78.
But the Herbert team wasn’t supposed to get any closer. National player Andreas Obst was the best Munich thrower with 15 points. The first double game day of the Euroleague season is coming up for Bayern this week, with a home game against Paris Basketball continuing on Thursday. There is also a German national player and former Bayern player in the squad in Maodo Lo. Paris recently defeated Euroleague defending champion Panathinaikos Athens.
