Dennis Schröder met the Denver Nuggets with superstar Nikola Jokic last night in the still young NBA season.
The New Yorkers kept the game open for a long time against the Nuggets led by superstar Jokic, but the 2023 champion ultimately prevailed in overtime.
All in all, Schröder had a strong evening at the Barclays Center at home. With 28 points, the German was his team’s best scorer and also contributed an outstanding 14 assists.
Jokic historically
Only Nikola Jokic, reigning MVP and currently probably the best player in the league, scored 29 points, one more than the captain of the German national team and rounded off his incredible triple double with 16 assists and 18 rebounds.
After the game went into overtime in regular time with a score of 125:125, Denver ended up having the longest time with a score of 144:139.
Doncic very important late
In Minnesota, the local Timberwolves and the Dallas Mavericks met for a repeat of the Western Conference Finals. The Timberwolves around superstar Anthony Edwards were looking for revenge and, above all, number five Wolves impressively underlined his team’s ambitions at the beginning.
Edwards scored 24 of his 37 points in the first quarter alone. Luka Doncic, on the other hand, had a slow start but improved towards the end of the game.
The Slovenian only hit one of his eight three-pointers, but the last attempt behind the line meant the end of all the Timberwolves’ desire for revenge. A good minute before the end, the exceptional point guard hit a deep throw from distance from the logo and increased the lead to eight points.
However, the best man of the evening was teammate Kyrie Irving. The American was as effective as usual with 35 points and six of eight three-pointers.
Descent into Utah
In Utah, the Sacramento Kings secured their second win of the season in a row. The Kings from California dominated against the more or less unambitious Jazz and ultimately won 113 to 96.
The outstanding man for the Kings was the Lithuanian Domantas Sabonis. The big man scored 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. DeMar DeRozan and DeAaron Fox scored 20 and 19 points, respectively, in the purple dress. The Kings are definitely at the top end of the Western Conference this season, while Utah started the season with four losses
Warriors can do it without Curry
They showed at home against the New Orleans Pelicans that the Golden State Warriors can survive without their leader Stephen Curry. Olympic hero Curry saw his supporters flourish against the water birds, the best thrower was shooter Buddy Hield, who scored 28 points and hit seven of his eleven three-point attempts.
On the other side, Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram scored 31 and 30 points, but they had no chance against the Warriors, who acted as a unit.
