Basketball-Zone 4/Uncertain participation of Moanda Basketball and Naba in sub-regional games

Less than six days before the start of the zone 4 competitions in Douala, the two Gabonese teams are still in uncertainty. The financial commitment from the State, necessary to cover the costs of participation, is long overdue, thus casting doubt on their presence.

Moanda Basketball and Nzeng-Ayong Basketball Association (NABA), champions of the Gabon Cup for men and women respectively, on Saturday March 30 at the Léon Mba high school gymnasium, risk not participating in the zone 4 qualifiers, scheduled for October 27 to 31 in Douala, Cameroon.

Less than six days before the event, the two teams have still not received the financial support from the State promised by the head of Sports last March, to cover the costs of licenses, accommodation, transport and catering.

“You have just expressed a grievance. I make the commitment that the champions will be supported by the ministry for African competitions,” declared Dr. André Jacques Augand following the request for support made to him by the federal president.

While Moanda Basketball is aiming for qualification for the Basketball African League, NABA is preparing to participate in the Women’s Basketball League Africa for the first time. The two clubs are still hoping for a rapid reaction (before Friday) from the authorities to honor their participation.
