Besides basketball, what could the large event hall in Quimper be used for?

Not yet out of the ground, it is already attracting people! Tuesday October 22, at the invitation of elected officials, around a hundred local economic players were able to visit the construction site of the future large hall of Quimper. The structure, which should be delivered by the summer of 2025, is already attracting interest from many sports clubs and businesses, who see it as an opportunity to develop and form new partnerships.

If we already know that the Quimper basketball club, Ujap, will use it for its matches, the other potential users of the structure remain unknown.

Give visibility to Quimper clubs

Among today’s visitors, many representatives of sports clubs are happy to plan for the future large room. A large-scale structure, which they had been waiting for for a long time. “We were the ones who asked for this room 34 years ago,” remembers Michel Chapalain, from the Quimper Sports Movement Office. “For many clubs, it is an opportunity to organize a sporting spectacle such as the Tennis Open, for example. »

Valérie Bothorel, president of the rhythmic gymnastics club, sees it as an opportunity for the club to develop: “For our part, we would like to use it to organize a French championship. Currently we cannot do this because we do not have the necessary infrastructure. However, a national championship provides a lot of visibility for the club and it is a good way to raise funds. »

Occupy the room, yes, but at what cost?

You still have to have the means to rent the room… Quimper Évènements, in charge of managing the structure, has not yet revealed the rental prices. But given the fixed costs of the building, they could turn out to be high. “Clearly, we would like them to lend it to us,” admits Valérie Bothorel. “By using this large venue, our aim is to make money for the club, not to lose money. » An observation shared by Michel Levesque, of the La Quimpéroise artistic gymnastics club: “We would like to use the room to organize regional championships. But as long as we don’t know what it would cost us, it remains unknown. In certain cases, the town hall asserts a right of pre-emption so that a few days in the year are reserved for free services… Perhaps this is possible? “.

For his part, Jean-Luc Gouin, president of Quimper Volley 29, a club which plays in Ligue 1, does not hide his ambitions regarding the large hall of Eau-Blanche: “Given our level, the hall in which we play is no longer suitable. This is why I hope that the volleyball club will be retained among the users of the room. Of course, there are financial implications, and we have to be able to keep up. But if we want the club to maintain its level, it must benefit from adequate infrastructure.”
