Matt Torres y Betorz, a young 19-year-old fighter trained by the coaches of Pythagore Agen, won on Saturday October 5 during a renowned tournament, a beautiful and very promising victory.
Amateur fighter in – 66 kg according to MMA regulations (ground strikes authorized, protections – shin guards, socks and mitts of 6, elbow strikes prohibited, three rounds of 3 minutes), the Agenais had to face a formidable fighter in the person of Erwan Labussière from the Spartan Tonnay-Charente. A renowned competitor in Muay Thai, aged 29 and black belt in judo. Very sharp, Erwan was logically the favorite.
The young Agenais, just 19 years old, started the first round by immediately avoiding the devastating boxing of his opponent, even inflicting sequences of wrestling and ground work on him. A huge amount of undermining to physically wear down his opponent. The second round starts with a powerful jumping knee from Charentais, absorbed and controlled by Matt who goes to the ground in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and hits until the bell. The third round looks terrible because the judges awarded a parity score. Matt immediately engages with a jumping knee, in response to Erwan’s start in the second round, and lands in the arms of his opponent. The cage control war resumes. What follows is wrestling, attrition work on the ground and a magnificent guillotine sequence which definitively seals the victory.
A great pleasure for Matt who spent two months preparing for this fight. Great happiness for his coaches, Jean-Marc Frignati, Sébastien Barthes, Ahmed Boualem and the sparring partner and friend Rayhan Achir. Championships in wrestling, grappling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu are already on the program for the young fighter from Agen for the coming weeks who will also take on challenges in MMA.
