Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Fiber did not miss the opportunity to call on the police and emergency services in her area of ​​responsibility and the BND to personally thank them once again for their commitment to the EURO 2024 and the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris. For this purpose, on October 14, 2024, she invited around 200 representatives of the authorities involved to Blumberg to the location of the Federal Police Aviation Squadron.

Not an ordinary commitment by the emergency services

Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser recognized the services of the emergency services not only at EURO 2024, but also during the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris. It is thanks to them that the sporting events could be held successfully and, above all, safely. “I am grateful to you for taking on the hardships, which were not least associated with a vacation ban,” so Faeser. “The fact that you were all willing to do this shows a great willingness to take responsibility for our country.”. This was no ordinary engagement and operations, especially in view of the global political situation. Through comprehensive security precautions on site, but also through the effective work of the security authorities in the background, the dangers posed by terrorism, hybrid threats and also by hooligans were averted.

Peaceful celebrations in the sports summer of 2024

Millions of local and visiting fans cheered and celebrated both in the stadiums and in the fan zones. Sport was able to develop its unifying power and send a signal of friendship and solidarity. “It is thanks to you that people in Germany and Europe will remember EURO 2024 as an absolute highlight in the 2024 sports summer”explained the minister. In this way, social cohesion in Germany and Europe has been strengthened.

Among other things, 22,000 federal police officers and around 13,000 mostly volunteers THW– Helpers ensured that EURO 2024 ran smoothly.
