If anyone knows how to fully enjoy the fruits of a boxing career at a really high level, then it is surely the undefeated legend Floyd Mayweather. The 47-year-old fighter is nicknamed Money and can earn and spend huge sums. And even quite a long time after, when title matches no longer concern him. The American media has now brought information that despite the ownership of many luxury residences, Mayweather has newly invested in housing in New York, for which he is to spend 402 million dollars, i.e. almost 10 billion crowns.
But Mayweather already owns an entire real estate empire, which also includes a luxurious estate in Las Vegas, which he bought for $10 million, or roughly a quarter of a billion crowns. It includes, for example, two guest houses and a private vineyard. It also has, for example, a private closed campus on Miami Beach in the Palm Island area.
But that’s still not enough for the boxing legend. So he is now plunging into buying housing in Manhattan, which he sees as more of an investment project. According to The Real Deal, Mayweather has contracted with Josh Gotlib of Black Spruce Management for a real estate portfolio of up to 1,000 condo units in 60 buildings.
It is supposed to be one of the biggest real estate contracts of the year. And according to Mayweather himself, it is also a matter of the heart. “This purchase has emotional value for me and my family,” the boxer said in a statement.
He grew up alone in a one-room apartment with six relatives in New Brunswick, New Jersey. “When people see what I have now, they have no idea where I came from. And that growing up, I had nothing at all,” he previously stated in an interview with the Mercury News.
He can still make a lot of money
This is not the first time Mayweather has invested in real estate in New York. In 2022, he bought nine skyscrapers and invested in a casino to be built in Times Square.
But “Money” can’t just spend, he can still make a lot of money in the ring, even if he hasn’t been attacking titles for a long time. Although he ended his professional career in 2017 with an incredible record of 50-0, he still continues to fight for huge rewards. He allegedly already collected 250 million dollars for exhibition fights with YouTubers or TV stars.
He was supposed to get $100 million just for the criticized match with Logan Paul. “When it comes to legalized bank robberies, I’m the best at it,” he uttered the now legendary statement after his win over Logan Paul.
“Of all those guys you talk about as special – all those Canelos or Pacquiaos, I was able to make them ordinary,” he added, already suitably cocky.
How a boxer’s fate can develop in completely different directions is shown by the contrast between the billionaire Mayweather and his controversial defeater from the Olympics in Atlanta, the Bulgarian Serafim Todorov, who ultimately never became a professional and ended up homeless.
