Five Brazilian athletes advanced to the men’s and women’s individual semifinals, while last night the gold and silver medals went to the gold and green representatives in the mixed final of the Pan American Championship.

The duo made up of Teodoro Guilherme and Giulia Takahashi defeated their compatriots Hugo Calderano and Bruna Takahashi with a close score of 3-2 to win the gold metal.

Brazil, one of the most powerful countries in table tennis on a Pan-American scale, will animate the event in which three of the four candidates for the men’s singles title qualified for the semifinals, ensuring they were on the podium.

Vitor Ishy, Hugo Calderano and Leonardo Iizuka will accompany the Argentine Horacio Cifuentes, the only one who resisted in the quarterfinal duels this Wednesday at the tennis tables of the Ciudad Merliot Sports Center, and who will seek to stop the Brazilians.

In the quarterfinals, the gaucho defeated Brazilian Guilherme Teodoro 3-4 (11-8, 11-8, 5-11, 11-9, 7-11, 10-12 and 6-11), who wasted a 3-1 lead when collapsing in the final games.

In the women’s individual category, Brazil qualified Bruna Takahashi, who defeated the Chilean Zhiying Zeng 0-4, and Giulia Takahashi, who defeated the American Jessica Reyes 2-4.

In the semifinals this Thursday Bruna will face Amy Wang from the United States and Giulia will face Adriana Díaz from Puerto Rico, the favorite.

The event must conclude on October 20 with the men’s and women’s team matches.
