Brian Riemer is Denmark‘s new national football coach. The 46-year-old, who was most recently head coach at Belgian RSC Anderlecht, will make his first appearance with the Danish selection on November 15th in the Nations League group game against Spain. Riemer’s contract runs until the end of the 2026 World Cup.
Riemer takes over the position of Augsburg’s assistant coach Lars Knudsen. He temporarily took over the job from Morten Wieghorst at the end of August because he was absent due to stress symptoms. Wieghorst, in turn, had replaced former Mainz coach Kasper Hjulmand, whose tenure ended after this year’s European Championships when the team lost to Germany in the round of 16. Riemer, who also gained experience in the Premier League as an assistant coach at English club FC Brentford, said it was always his dream to become national coach for Denmark. “I am enormously proud and feel honored,” said Riemer in a statement from the DBU association.
