Liliana Ochoa, athlete and student of Mechatronic Engineering at the Tec Aguascalienteswon the bronze medal in archery, after participating in the 2024 National Outdoor Championship.

The National Outdoor Championship is a championship organized by the Federation World Archery Méxicowhich summons archers of various ages and categories to demonstrate their skills in this discipline.

The athlete participated in the Sub 21 Composite category, where he competed with 5 archers between 18 and 21 years oldcoming from different states of the republic.

“For me, it is a competition against myself and that gives me calm because I know what I have trained, so It’s just letting myself flow and taking it as a workout.he emphasized.

The competition

This was the first archery competition for the athlete, who He has been dedicating himself to this sport for a year.

“I am a person who really likes to have goals and start to achieve them, One of my goals was to win a medal, although I know it seemed unattainable, “How was I going to win a medal if I hadn’t been shooting for even a year?”he shared.

Ochoa shared that he prepared for the championship training 5 to 6 days a week, dedicating 3 hours a day to his practice, in addition to going to the gym and having a physical trainer.

“As the competition approaches, I reduce physical work to avoid fatigue and possible contractures, maintaining my regular training, but without additional days, to avoid overload before competing,” mentioned.

“I take it as a competition against myself, so I just have to let myself flow and take it as another workout.”

The athlete comments that archery competitions last several days and before shooting for the medal, She had already had previous days of competition.

After 3 days of qualifying shots, Ochoa competed for the bronze medal in compound bow competitions, where athletes shoot from a distance of 50 meters with the goal of achieving perfect scores.

“For the final, I was already aware of the mistakes I was making and decided to enjoy the moment. Notice that I got very nervous when I had the advantage then, even if I was in that position I focused on shooting,” he commented.

Sports career

Ochoa began his sporting career at the age of 6, he began practicing basketball for 13 years, however, due to personal reasons he decided to retire of sport.

“My younger brother practices archery, so when I stopped practicing basketball, My mom asked me if I wanted to try archery and that’s when I decided to try it.he added.

Likewise, he indicated“What gives me peace of mind about archery is that no one can block a ball from me or run faster than me, we all stand on the same line 50 meters away and shoot.

“I take it as a competition against myself, so I just have to let myself flow and take it as another workout.”.

The athlete maintains that her experience in competitive basketball has given her the discipline necessary for archery.

“Although I didn’t start practicing since I was little, The discipline that I have cultivated over the years has allowed me to develop in this new sport”, he posed.

“Trusting is not an option, I know that I have achieved a lot, but I have aspects to improve, I have to continue working, and this medal tells me to achieve it, but let’s go for more.

It’s what I’m doing now; improving and training, seeking, soon, a pass to the National Student Sports Commission of Private Institutions (CONADEIP) 2025”, he concluded.
