The Buffalo Bills want to sell part of their franchise. Now a group of athletes around two NBA Hall of Famers is probably coming onto the scene.
This season the Buffalo Bills are once again showing that they are a force to be reckoned with. The NFL team has a record of 4-2 after six game days. This means that the franchise around star quarterback Josh Allen is considered a serious Super Bowl contender. Reason enough for a group of former sports stars to want to buy into the Bills.
As the business newspaper “Sportico” reports, former NBA players Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady as well as former US soccer star Jozy Altidore want to join the Bills as shareholders. The team is keeping a low profile so far.
“Earlier this year, the Pegula family (owners of the Bills, editor’s note) hired Allen & Company to explore a possible sale of a minority interest in the Bills. Since then, there has been a significant amount of interest and our focus has been “To find the right partners for our organization,” the team told NFL insider Adam Shefter.
The process is ongoing but cannot be completed and confirmed until approved by the NFL, it said.
With a value of 4.2 billion US dollars, the Bills are currently the 30th most valuable sports club on the Forbes list. According to The Athletic, the Bills want to sell shares worth up to $1.3 billion.
Athletes as minority shareholders?
Vince Carter is a former shooting guard in the NBA basketball league (NBA live on ProSieben, ProSieben MAXX, ran.de, in the ran app and on Joyn). The 1998 first-round pick played 24 years in the league and was subsequently inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Tracy McGrady also played for a long time in the NBA for teams like the Toronto Raptors, Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets and Orlando Magic. McGrady also later became part of the NBA Hall of Fame.
Meanwhile, Jozy Altidore earns his money from football. The striker played, among others, in the Premier League for AFC Sunderland and in the Spanish LaLiga for Villarreal FC. Via Turkey, the Netherlands and Mexico, he ended up back in the top US league, where the 34-year-old still plays. His contract with the New England Revolution expires in December 2024.
