FC Bayern Munich – VfB Stuttgart 4:0 (0:0)
After a goalless first half, Bayern Munich clearly won 4-0 against VfB Stuttgart. The Munich team secured the lead in the table thanks to a better goal difference.
Munich started the first half dominantly, but Stuttgart also played bravely at times. Overall, the first half offered few highlights; the goalless draw was justified. Munich’s Aleksandar Pavlović had to be substituted injured in the 6th minute of the game after falling on his shoulder in an aerial duel.
After halftime, Bayern continued strong, but Stuttgart also had a chance to take the lead. Harry Kane (57th) finally brought salvation for Bayern with a long-range shot. A short time later (61st) he scored again from a short distance. In the 80th minute of the game, Kane completed his hat trick. Shortly before the end, Kingsley Coman scored (89th).
On matchday 8, Munich plays in Bochum, Stuttgart hosts Holstein Kiel.
Bayer 04 Leverkusen – Eintracht Frankfurt 2:1 (1:1)
In an intense game, Bayer Leverkusen won 2-1 against Eintracht Frankfurt. After just a few minutes there was a penalty for Leverkusen, but Kevin Trapp, who returned from injury, saved Victor Boniface’s shot. Shortly afterwards, Frankfurt was awarded a penalty kick and Omar Marmoush (16th) took the lead.
Leverkusen managed to equalize before the break Robert Andrich (25th). But in the second half, Bayer missed several chances to take the lead. Finally, Boniface (72nd) scored the decisive goal with a header.
With the victory, Leverkusen moves past Frankfurt in the table, who had recently won seven competitive games in a row. On the next matchday, Leverkusen plays against Bremen, Frankfurt travels to Berlin.
FSV Mainz 05 – RB Leipzig 0:2 (0:2)
In a game that was poor in highlights, Mainz had to Leipzig beaten 0-2. In the first half, Xavi scored 1-0 in the 20th minute. Mainz disrupted Leipzig’s early build-up to the game, but was unable to relieve the pressure offensively. Leipzig used its few chances consistently: Willi Orban (37th) scored the second goal after a corner.
The best chance of the second half belonged to Mainz, Anthony Caci’s shot (67′) was only just saved by goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi. However, Mainz didn’t manage to score a goal, and so Leipzig was able to win in the end.
The game was Leipzig’s first competitive game after Jürgen Klopp was hired as head of football – in Mainz, of all places, where Klopp was coach for years. The Mainz fans criticized the new hire at the highly commercialized club with posters: “Klopp: I like people until they disappoint me” and “Are you crazy?” was written on it.
With the victory, Leipzig temporarily moves to the top of the table – at least until FC Bayern’s evening game. Mainz is still waiting for its first home win. On the 8th matchday, Mainz Gladbach and Leipzig welcome SC Freiburg.
Borussia Mönchengladbach – FC Heidenheim 3:2 (1:1)
In a game with two late penalties, Gladbach won 3-2 against Heidenheim enforced. Due to opposing mistakes, Heidenheim initially took the lead through Leonardo Scienza (12th). Ten minutes later, Borussia equalized through Ko Itakura (22′). Robin Hack could have taken the lead before the break.
Instead, Tim Kleindienst (62′) turned the game in Borussia’s favor in the second half. It was Kleindienst (75th) who extended the lead a little later with a penalty kick. Gladbach now controlled the game, Heidenheim rarely came in front of the opponent’s goal.
But another penalty, this time for handball, brought tension back into the game. Heidenheim’s Marvin Pieringer (80th) scored the next goal, but in the end it was useless. On the next match day, Gladbach plays in Mainz, Heidenheim welcomes Hoffenheim.
SC Freiburg – FC Augsburg 3:1 (3:0)
Thanks to a good first half Freiburg Won 3-1 against FC Augsburg. Augsburg initially tried to achieve stability, Freiburg found it difficult. But then Freiburg made the preliminary decision before the break: first Vincenzo Grifo (34th) and Philipp Lienhart (37th) scored in quick succession. In stoppage time, Christian Günter (45th+1) extended the lead.
After the break, little happened at first and the game lost pace. Augsburg scored another goal through Phillip Tietz (65th). Despite further good chances for Augsburg, the result remained the same until the end. Freiburg next plays against Leipzig, Augsburg hosts Borussia Dortmund.
TSG 1899 Hoffenheim – VfL Bochum 3:1 (1:0)
TSG Hoffenheim won 3-1 against bottom-placed VfL Bochum. Hoffenheim were offensively superior in the first half and took an early lead through Andrej Kramarić (11th). Further Hoffenheim chances followed, but the halftime score remained narrow. Bochum was harmless for a long time and only had a great chance shortly before the break.
At the beginning of the second half, Hoffenheim had a supposed goal from Marius Bülter (50th) disallowed by the VAR for offside. After a pass through almost the entire opposing half by Tom Bischof, Bülter (64th) scored to make it 2-0.
Overall, the second half was more balanced, Bochum reduced the deficit through Cristian Gamboa (76th). A penalty shortly before the end could have made things even more exciting, but Lukas Daschner was denied by Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann. In stoppage time, Haris Tabaković decided the game (90+3). On the 8th matchday, Bochum faces a difficult opponent in FC Bayern Munich, while Hoffenheim travels to Heidenheim.
